On the Via Francigena, inside the walls
If you have walked here from San Gimignano you have thirty kilometres of hills behind your eyes and eight hours of walking in your legs. From here you don’t have to walk any further: you sleep inside the walls, on the square.
The stage
San Gimignano – Monteriggioni is one of the longest and finest stages of the Tuscan Via Francigena: about 30 kilometres, up and down all the way, open countryside. The next day, Monteriggioni – Siena is 21 kilometres, far kinder. We are inside the walls: when you come through the gate you have arrived — there is no further two kilometres of outskirts to walk with your pack.
What a walker actually needs
Breakfast at whatever hour you leave
There is no breakfast room and no set time. The fridge in your room is already stocked the night before, and by 6:30 the baker leaves warm bread, croissants and a filled roll outside your door. If you set off in the dark, you still have breakfast.
Luggage store from 8am to 7pm
Before check-in too. Arrive, drop the pack, go and see the village with your hands free.
Bag transfer
We work with every transfer service: whichever you use, they deliver to us and collect from us.
Dinner downstairs
The bistrot is on the ground floor of the same building, with tables out on the square, and house guests get 10% off. After thirty kilometres you shouldn’t have to go out again looking for food.
Quiet
Once the coaches leave, no cars come inside the walls. You sleep.
Two things to know before booking
Three floors, no lift
The building has three floors, there is no lift and no ground-floor room. With a heavy pack or a bad knee, better to know now.
No bicycles
We have no storage and bikes cannot be brought inside. If you are travelling by bike, look elsewhere — we would rather tell you now.
The next day
Monteriggioni to Siena is 21 kilometres: downhill, through the scrub, and into the city by Porta Camollia. Leave early and you are in Piazza del Campo for lunch.
